The United States sees China as a serious threat to its military superiority in air and space, so the Pentagon is seeking new technologies and systems to keep America ahead of its rival, the US deputy defense secretary said.
Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work told to a group of military and civilian aerospace experts that China was "quickly closing the technological gaps."
He said Beijing is developing radar-evading aircraft, advanced reconnaissance planes, sophisticated missiles and top-notch electronic warfare equipment, Reuters reported.

Vietnam special forces prep for S China Sea action
To stop China's land reclamation activities in the disputed South China Sea, the Vietnamese military is preparing to attack the Chinese facilities in the region with special forces, according to Moscow-based Kommersant.
As military exercises held by the Vietnamese military since 2004 have shown, the People's Air Force of Vietnam's Su-22 tactical bomber will be used to launch the first strike against maritime targets with AS-10 air-to-surface missiles. At the same time, the Su-30 fighter is likely to provide cover for the Su-22 bombers during the strike. The bomber can attack the People's Liberation Army Navy's vessels from an attitude of 2,500 to 3,000 meters.
Next, the People's Navy of Vietnam will carry out an amphibious landing against the islands and reefs currently under Chinese occupation. The landing vessels are to be covered by aircraft, torpedo boats and corvettes. The Beijing-based Sina Military Network reports that the Vietnamese Navy's four Tarantul-class corvettes are equipped with Russian-built Kh-35 anti-ship missiles which are extremely dangerous for PLA surface combat vessels.

Russia takes the top spot among China's oil suppliers outpacing Saudi Arabia whose selling prices in Asia are too high, according to press reports.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia has outpaced Saudi Arabia as the main oil exporter to China, Bloomberg reported Tuesday.
Following the deterioration of Russia's relations with the West over Ukraine, Moscow began seeking new energy markets and increased its cooperation with China, including in the oil and gas sector.
According to data emailed to the agency by the Beijing-based General Administration of Customs (GAC,) China's imports from Russia in May increased by 20 percent from the previous month to a record 3.9 million tonnes (4.3 short tons), an equivalent to 927,000 barrels per day. At the same time, Saudi supplies dropped by 42 percent from April to 3 million tonnes.

How Beijing may use South China Sea to create submarine haven
For months, China's visible construction of artificial islands and military facilities in the South China Sea has alarmed US officials and many of China's neighbours.
What is happening under the water is also worrisome, several defence and security analysts say.
China has a growing fleet of nuclear submarines armed with ballistic missiles. The expansion of its claim on the South China Sea may be intended to create a deep-water sanctuary – known in military parlance as a "bastion" – where its submarine fleet could avoid detection.
"The South China Sea would be a good place to hide Chinese submarines," said Carl Thayer, a US-born security specialist who has taught at the University of New South Wales and other Australian institutions. The sea floor is thousands of metres s deep in places, with underwater canyons where a submarine could easily avoid detection.
Conflicts in the South China Sea are expected to be a major focus of the annual US-Sino talks that begin on Tuesday in Washington, including meetings between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang.

Expert: Saying Israel Attacked Civilians in Gaza Means Nothing
Lt. Col. (res) David Benjamin explains that any "military infrastructure" in Gaza is hidden behind civilian buildings.
Saying that Israel attacked civilian buildings in Gaza "means nothing", Lt. Col. (res) David Benjamin of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs told Arutz Sheva on Monday.
Benjamin, who served in the IDF Military Advocate General's Corps (MAG) as chief legal advisor for the Gaza Strip, was responding to the UN report which claims that Israel committed war crimes during last summer's Operation Protective Edge.
"Everything in Gaza is essentially civilian. There's no military infrastructure in Gaza which actually looks like a military target. Everything is embedded in civilian buildings," he explained. "So there's nothing new when you say that Israel attacked civilian buildings, because what you have to know is the reason for the attack and what Israel knew about what was going on in those civilian buildings."

'UN Enabling Hamas to Manipulate Laws of War to its Advantage'
US military expert says UNHRC report into last summer's Gaza war based on fabricated legal assumptions.

A leading member of a committee of US military experts which probed Israel's conduct during last summer's war with Gazan terrorist groups has condemned Monday's UN report accusing Israel of possible war crimes, saying it "distorted" international law.
Speaking Monday at a presentation of the JINSA defense think-tank's Gaza Assessment Task Force findings, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Professor Geoffrey S. Corn criticized the UN Human Rights Council committee for not including any current or former military commanders and constructing legal arguments which were totally detached from reality.

The JCPA Report: Refuting the UN Report on the 2014 Gaza War
The bottom line is that the war was fought to stop the rocket fire on Israel's south and that if not for the Iron Dome, Israeli casualties would have been immense.
Published: Monday, June 22, 2015 11:09 PM
The Gaza War is a war Israel did not want, but it is also a war that averted disaster for Israel.
However, the truth has been abused again by the one-sided mandate issued by the UN Human Rights Council on July 23, 2014, which calls for an investigation into events surrounding the war in the "Occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem and particularly the occupied Gaza Strip" – blind to the fact that Israel was the target of thousands of rockets and mortar attacks, all against civilian populations, and with some targeted Israeli areas having three times the population density of Gaza.
The UN report written as a result of that mandate is another perversion of the truth.
