The White House on Tuesday relished the US Supreme Court ruling the day before, which sided with US President Barack Obama in striking down a Congressional law calling to have Jerusalem recognized as part of Israel on American passports.
"We welcome the Supreme Court's important decision yesterday in Zivotofsky v. Kerry, which reaffirms the long-established authority of the president to recognize foreign states, their governments, and their territorial boundaries," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement.
Celebrating the powers granted to the president by the ruling, he added, "the court's decision upholds the president's long-standing authority to make these sensitive recognition determinations as part of his conduct of diplomacy and foreign policy."
The 3,000-year-old capital of the Jewish people has not been recognized as being in the sovereign territory of Israel by a US president since being liberated by the Jewish state in the 1967 Six Day War. Likewise the American Embassy is still located in Tel Aviv.
According to Earnest, the Supreme Court decision "confirms that the president's recognition determinations should be accurately reflected in official documents and sensitive diplomatic communications, including passports."

This week, Rabbi Adler returns to a show from over a year ago, because the interview with attorney Alyza Lewin has returned to the forefront of today's news.
The US Supreme Court finally ruled about what we were discussing in the show.
Nearly 12 years ago, Menachem Zivotovsky, an American citizen, was born in Jerusalem. The parents expected that his passport would indicate he was born in Jerusalem, Israel, and have been fighting to have that designation ever since.
Attorney Alyza Lewin fought the case all the way to the Supreme Court, and during the show she explains the case, and why they were hopeful they would win.
Unfortunately, in a 6-3 decision this morning, they lost. Part of the 6 were the 3 Jewish justices.

So right off the bat, Obama's estimations don't add up. Though, in fairness, second place on the list is Canada, which is close to America, geographically.
Following the list down past Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Portugal, Singapore, and others, we find the United States all the way at number 22.
The reason for that low ranking stems from attributes beliefs that the US doesn't rank particularly high on the "high transparency and low corruption" scale. Other questions asked of surveyors include, "would you invest there?" "would you live there?" or even, "would you visit there?"

MOSCOW, June 9. /TASS/. The Russian Defense Ministry has requested explanations from the Pentagon over recent statements by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, to the effect the United States might deploy in Europe and Asia its cruise and ballistic missiles that might be targeted against Russia, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said.
"The Russian Defense Ministry is conducting scrupulous analysis of information regarding compliance with the INF treaty coming from different sources. Certainly, we took note of these publications in the Western press. In order to obtain official reaction from the American side we have dispatched a request through military-diplomatic channels for explanations of the Pentagon's positions regarding statements reportedly made by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey.
"The measures mentioned by US sources would be tantamount to the United States' walkout from the INF treaty," he added.

More Americans support same-sex marriage than ever, says survey
Support for same-sex marriage is at a record high, according to a Pew Research Center poll released Monday.
A majority of Americans — 57% — are in favor of gay marriage. Just five years ago, only 42% of Americans supported same-sex marriage.
The Pew Research Center survey, conducted via telephone interviews among 2,002 adults nationwide, found divides along racial lines in terms of support for same-sex marriage. While 59% of whites and 56% of Hispanics support gay marriage, only 51% of blacks are in favor.
Pew has noted a sharp partisan divide over legalization — 65% of both Democrats and independents polled favor gay marriage. Only 34% of Republicans are in favor.
